Our program goes beyond traditional doula training, diving deep into topics such as childbirth education, pregnancy anatomy, comfort measures, lactation support, and adult and infant CPR. With a special focus on addressing the unique needs and experiences of Black women, our curriculum also includes Medi-Cal Doula enrollment training, equipping you with the tools and knowledge to navigate the complexities of the healthcare system.

Designed with the principles of empathy, advocacy, and community empowerment at its core, our program ensures that you emerge as a knowledgeable and skilled doula, ready to make a meaningful impact on Black maternal health outcomes.

Black Child Legacy Campaign

Join us in our transformative Doula Training program, conducted by the Children of the Sun Doula Project in partnership with the Black Child Legacy Campaign. This program is designed to develop community doulas and change agents, equipping you with the essential skills and knowledge to effectively support maternal and child health.

Training Format: Our May sessions will utilize a dynamic hybrid format, combining both in-person and online interactions to enhance learning and accessibility.

Schedule: Training sessions will be held on Tuesdays and Thursdays throughout May 2024, from 6:00 PM to 10:00 PM. The specific dates are as follows:

Workforce Blitz Intensive

Comprehensive Childbirth Education

  • Childbirth Education: Understanding the various stages of childbirth, labor, and delivery, including both physiological and emotional aspects. This section may cover topics like stages of labor, pain management options, and birthing positions.
  •   Anatomy of Pregnancy: In-depth knowledge of the anatomy and physiology of pregnancy, including fetal development, changes in the mother's body, and common medical interventions.
  • Comfort Measures: Techniques and strategies to provide emotional and physical support to birthing individuals, such as massage, breathing exercises, and positioning.
  • Lactation Support: Learning about breastfeeding, including latch techniques, common challenges, and providing guidance and support to new mothers.
  • Adult and Infant CPR: Basic life support skills for both adults and infants, ensuring doulas are prepared for emergency situations.
  • Awareness of Risk Factors: Gain an awareness of risk factors that impact birth outcomes, empowering doulas to recognize and address potential challenges during childbirth.

  •  Historical Context: Understanding the historical contributions of Black midwives and doulas to modern birthing practices, acknowledging the cultural significance and legacy.

  • Mental Self-Care Practices: Developing and incorporating mental self-care practices into daily routines to maintain emotional well-being and resilience.

The Business of Being A Doula

  • Medi-Cal Doula Enrollment: Understanding the process and requirements for enrolling as a Medi-Cal Doula, enabling access to doula services for a broader population.
  • Business Management: Acquiring skills in managing a doula business, including legal considerations, client documentation, and financial aspects.
  • Communication and Interpersonal Skills: Developing effective communication and interpersonal skills to build strong relationships with clients, healthcare professionals, and other stakeholders, contributing to the success of a doula business.
